N. F. Railway (NFR) has been making a constant endeavour to make train journeys safer and secure. It continues to adopt technologically advanced measures to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure. To further enhance efficiency and safety, NFR has carried out various upgradations and replacements in its existing signalling and other safety gear systems installed at several sections within the zone.
During the month of December, 2024, NFR has installed Thick Web Switch Point machines with clamp type locking in 03 locations under Rangiya division. NFR has replaced 10 Point Machine at Katihar, 02 at Alipurduar and 01 at Rangiya divisions resulting in infrastructural improvements to reduce the chances of derailments and ensure safe passenger and freight movement. Electric lifting barriers have been replaced at five level crossing gates at various locations in Katihar, Lumding and Tinsukia divisions to enhance the safety at level crossing gates. 4.642 km signalling cable have been newly laid at various stations in Tinsukia, Lumding, and Alipurduar divisions. Automatic fire detection & alarm system have been commissioned at 03 stations out of which one was done at Rangiya and other two at Lumding divisions as a part of safety measures to prevent any damage to the railway properties. System integrity testing has been carried out at 32 level crossing gates of N. F. Railway. A total of 256 Signalling batteries of varied capacities have also been replaced in all the five divisions, enabling better reliability of safety gears. Modern communication systems are being used to control train movements by providing visual information to drivers & operators.
