Six arrested for attack on doctore

Six persons were arrested on Thursday midnight in connection with assault on a doctor on-duty and vandalism at Manikpur Primary Health Centre in Dhalai district following deaths of two children on Wednesday last.

The six arrestees- Harinath Tripura, Biswa Mohan Tripura, Chaitra Kumar Tripura, Jyotida Tripura, Jubirai Tripura and Nripendra Tripura were produced before a local court. The court sent them to judicial custody till Saturday, according to police.

The arrests were made in a raid by Addl. SP, Dhalai, SDPO Longtarai Valley and OC of Manikpur police station. They were charged under sections 148/149/153/333/326/307/427/34 of IPC and 3(A)(B) of Tripura Medicare Service Person and Medicare Service Institution, police said.

In a Facebook post, MLA Chaumanu Sambhu Lal Chakma expressed his satisfaction as the police nabbed the six culprits within 48 hours of the incident.

Dr. Pranab Debbarma, posted at Manikpur Primary Health centre of Longtarai Valley sub-division in Dhalai district, was assaulted by a mob after two siblings died of malaria.

The doctor received severe injuries in the attack incident and he was shifted to GBP Hospital, Agartala in a serious condition.

The incident sparked off serious resentment in the entire medical fraternity while widespread condemnation poured in.
Several doctors’ bodies demanded immediate arrest of all culprits involved in the attack incident and stringent action against them.

Nine SDMs, 31 BDOs transferred

In a major administrative reshuffle, the state government has transferred 64 Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers including nine Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and 13 Block Development Officers (BDOs).

Two transfer orders comprising the 64 TCS officers were issued by the state government with immediate effect on Wednesday last.

As per the notification, the state government transferred the SDMs of nine sub-divisions: Udaipur, Bishalgarh, Mohanpur, Khowai, Amarpur, Jampuijala, Sabroom, Belonia and Sonamura.
