Tripura approves 25 acres of land for the permanent campus of Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI) at Bikramnagar, aiming to strengthen film and media education, promote indigenous culture, and provide advanced training facilities for aspiring youth in cinema and digital media.

The Tripura government has approved the allotment of 25 acres of land for the construction of a permanent campus for the Tripura Film and Television Institute, marking a major step toward strengthening film and media education in the state.

Officials from the Revenue Department confirmed on Monday that the land has been allocated at Bikramnagar mouja under the Sadar subdivision. The institute, which began operations in 2022, is currently functioning from the premises of Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on a temporary basis.

The establishment of the institute was initiated in collaboration with the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute with the aim of developing professional skills and creative talent among young people interested in cinema, television, and digital media. The institute focuses on providing modern training facilities and technical education in different areas of the entertainment and media industry.

Since its inception, the institute has been offering certificate courses in several disciplines connected to filmmaking and media production. Officials stated that new postgraduate certificate programmes of one-year duration in Screen Acting and Film and Video Editing were introduced for the first time during the 2025-26 academic session.

The state government is also extending financial support to students enrolled in these programmes by bearing nearly 80 percent of the course fees. Authorities believe this initiative will encourage more students from different socio-economic backgrounds to pursue professional education in film and media studies.

According to officials, the proposed permanent campus is expected to provide modern infrastructure, advanced production facilities, and better academic resources for students and faculty members. The new campus is also likely to create opportunities for cultural exchange, creative collaborations, and professional training in emerging media technologies.

Officials further said the project would help promote Tripura’s cultural heritage and the traditions of indigenous communities through cinema and media platforms at both national and international levels. The government expects the institute to emerge as an important centre for film education in the Northeast region while supporting the growth of the state’s creative industry sector.
