New Delhi/IBNS: Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said he never compared the Congress party and the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and he only said Congress tried to withdraw cases against the organisation.

In an interview with ANI, Shah was asked to comment on his statement in Karnataka on Saturday where he allegedly compared PFI and the Congress.

Replying to that, he said, I never said that PFI and Congress are the same. PFI had several cases on them and Congress tried to withdraw cases against PFI members. We only tried to stop it. What is there to feel bad about in it?

We have successfully banned PFI. I believe that PFI was spreading conversion and radicalism. They were trying to prepare raw materials for terrorism. We have so many documents that verify that the activities being carried out by the PFI were not good for the unity of the country, Shah said in the interview.

While speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (CAMPCO) in Karnataka, on Saturday, the Home Minister said 1,700 PFI members were released when the Congress government came to power in the state.

Dwelling on the point, Shah said in the interview that the government banned PFI, rising above politics.
