To celebrate Mahagaura parv, a fair is organised in Tundikhel of Kathmandu Valley where people from the far west region of Nepal observe the Maha Gaura festival. This is a four-day festival which will conclude on Sunday. Gaura Parva celebration takes place in the Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal as well as in some parts of Karnali Province and the crossborder Kumaon region of the Indian state Uttarakhand.
The Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri are worshipped during the festival, which is also called Gora in native languages.
During Gaura, the women known as Upavasi, fast throughout the day and eat one meal consisting of food such as Puri, Kheer, Sel roti, etc. at the end of the day. Five types of grains-wheat, horse gram, peas, black gram, and rhododendron are soaked together called as Biruda is offered to the deity. Married women sing Saguna and perform deuda dance wearing traditional attire.
