During the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, which was held in New Delhi yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate, C. P. Radhakrishnan, and felicitated him.  Briefing the media after the meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Prime Minister Modi appealed to all MPs, including those from the opposition, to elect him unanimously.

Meanwhile, the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc has fielded former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice-Presidential election.  The Vice Presidential Election will be held on the 9th of next month.  Tomorrow is the last date of filing nominations for the office of Vice President.  The scrutiny of the nominations will take place on the 22nd of August, while the nominations can be withdrawn by the 25th of this month.

The election has been necessitated due to the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who tendered his resignation last month, citing health reasons. This will be the 17th Vice Presidential election. The Vice-President is elected by an Electoral College, which consists of the members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
