Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath chairs an NDA coordination meeting in Manu ahead of September 28 Village Committee elections, focusing on BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha coordination, grassroots mobilisation, organisational preparedness and development priorities across TTAADC areas.
With the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28, senior leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held a crucial coordination meeting in Manu, Dhalai district, focusing on organisational preparedness, grassroots coordination and joint electoral strategy.
The meeting was chaired by Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Senior leaders from the NDA partners, including BJP vice president Tapas Bhattacharjee, IPFT minister Sukla Charan Noatia, Tipra Motha MLA Paul Dangshu, MDC Rabindra Debbarma and MDC Hollywood Chakma, were present. Other district and local-level leaders from the BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha also participated in the discussions.
According to Nath, the meeting placed particular emphasis on strengthening coordination among the alliance partners and ensuring that the organisational preparations for the Village Committee elections reach the grassroots. He said the participating parties discussed their preparations and ways to improve coordination among their respective organisational structures in the coming days.
The Village Committee elections are being held after a long gap. The State Election Commission has scheduled polling for September 28 across 587 Village Committees under the TTAADC, covering 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats. Voting will take place through ballot papers, with polling scheduled from 7 am to 4 pm. Counting is scheduled for October 5.
The upcoming polls have prompted the NDA partners to intensify their organisational activities in the tribal areas. BJP and Tipra Motha have already finalised a seat-sharing arrangement for the elections and announced plans to contest jointly as NDA partners. Subsequent discussions have focused on translating the alliance-level understanding into coordination among workers at the constituency and local levels.
Addressing the Manu meeting, Nath highlighted the importance of maintaining unity and coordination among the alliance partners during the election process. He said the objective was to strengthen the NDA’s organisational presence and ensure coordinated efforts across the Village Committee areas.
Nath also linked the alliance’s electoral preparations with its stated development priorities for the Autonomous District Council areas. He said the NDA partners wanted to take development programmes to villages across the ADC region while seeking the trust, support and participation of tribal communities.
The minister’s remarks also placed emphasis on the alliance’s approach to grassroots politics. According to Nath, the NDA’s partners should work together at the village level and focus on issues concerning development and the welfare of marginalised sections of society.
The Manu meeting comes amid intensified preparations for the September 28 polls. The election is particularly significant for local governance in the TTAADC areas, as the previous Village Committee bodies completed their terms in March 2021 and elections were subsequently delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and legal complications.

With the polling date approaching, the NDA partners are continuing efforts to coordinate their organisational machinery, resolve local-level issues and strengthen their joint campaign preparations. The Manu meeting highlighted the alliance’s focus on unity, grassroots mobilisation and development-oriented messaging as the political parties prepare for the Village Committee elections.
