Medziphema/Nagaland: Nagaland is embracing organic and natural farming to promote sustainable agriculture and preserve the environment, said Dr BN Tripathi, Indian Council of Agricultural Reaearch at the North East Sustainability Conclave.

The Conclave was held at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema.

Dr BN Tripathi, DDG (Animal Science), ICAR, New Delhi gave the opening address at the North East Sustainability Conclave on advancing sustainable development through productivity and green growth.

He stated, Nagaland is known for its diverse indigenous communities and rich biodiversity. Organic and natural farming practices are gaining popularity in Nagaland as a means of promoting sustainable agriculture and preserving the environment.

Climate change is an important issue to address and we have a goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions globally by the year 2070, he stated further.

Sundeep Kumar Nayak, IAS, the Director General of the National Productivity Council (NPC) and the chief guest of the event, emphasized that the NPC is at the forefront of promoting green growth in the country.

He stated that the NPC offers technical support to state governments and organizations in adopting sustainable practices to promote green growth.

We need to have a net zero state action plan for Nagaland that includes mitigation and adaptation measures aiming at a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and implementation of carbon neutral activities, stated Nayak.

He highlighted the importance of the private sector in achieving sustainability and emphasized the need for green finance to support environmentally friendly projects and business practices.

Dr. DN Thakur emphasized proper food storage and reducing food waste before reaching consumers, while also promoting the use of biogas and cooperative movements for achieving green and inclusive growth in Nagaland.

Other speakers at the North East Sustainability Conclave discussed topics such as natural farming, green manufacturing, and organic agriculture in the NE region.

The event was organized by the National Productivity Council and the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun to promote sustainable economic development in the NE region of India.
