National Lok Adalat to settle 23,994 cases in Tripura on Sept 14

The third National Lok Adalat of the year is set to convene in Tripura on September 14. In addition to the Tripura High Court, these Lok Adalats will operate in all district and sub-divisional court premises across the state. A total of 23,994 cases will be considered for resolution by 51 benches. This announcement was made by Member Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury during a press conference at the Tripura Law Service Authority’s office today.

In the press conference, the Member Secretary encouraged all concerned parties to take advantage of the opportunity to settle cases quickly and without incurring legal expenses. She highlighted that of the cases to be addressed by the Third National Lok Adalat, 3,920 relate to past disputes, while 20,074 cases are pending in various courts.

The Member Secretary also provided a breakdown of the types of cases to be taken up, including 370 motor accident compensation claims, 3,205 bank loan repayment disputes, and 17,777 arbitrable criminal cases under various acts such as the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act, and Excise Act. Additionally, 286 matrimonial disputes, 160 cheque bounce cases, 11 employment-related cases, and 16 civil disputes are scheduled for settlement.

A special bench will be seated at the Tripura High Court, where 31 cases will be heard. The Agartala court premises will host the largest number of benches, with 11 benches in total. Notices have already been issued to the concerned parties in the respective cases. Those who have received these notices have the opportunity to engage in pre-conciliation or settlement by reaching out to the District Legal Service Authority and Sub-Divisional Legal Service Authority offices from August 6. Paralegal volunteers will assist individuals attending the National Lok Adalat with the settlement process.
