National Girl Child Day is being celebrated across the nation today, highlighting the rights, education, health, nutrition, and welfare of girls. Observed annually on 24th January, this day serves as a platform to raise awareness about gender discrimination, promote equal opportunities, and foster an environment where girls can thrive as empowered citizens.
The day also marks the anniversary ofthe Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22nd January 2015. This landmark initiative aims to address critical issues such as female foeticide, child marriage, and gender discrimination, while promoting girls’ education, health, and safety. Initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the National Girl Child Day was first observed in 2008 in India. The day was established to address critical issues such as child marriage, female foeticide, and gender inequality.
