 At a times when Tripura has become cut off from the rest of the country by road and rails due to landslips  and flash floods in some parts of the National Highway connecting the state with Assam and Meghalaya  Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Gen. VK Singh arrived in the state on a three-day tour on Sunday. Gen (retd) Singh will review the progress of various central schemes and highway works being implemented in the state. Besides, the Union Minister who also holds port folio for aviations as MoS will also study the ground works for reviving the Kailasahar airport. He will visit Kailasahar also during his three day tour.

Speaking to the media on his arrival at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport, Agartala, the Union Minister said he would look into the matter of increasing the frequency of flights.

Replying to a query, he said the state would get a new airport at Kailashahar.

The visit of Singh in the state is assumed to be significant due to disruption of road communication that passes through Assam and Meghalaya.

Transport minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who along with others received the central minister at the airport, said that the state government had already written a letter to the Ministry of Aviation for increasing the number of flights to and fro Agartala since the people were facing trouble following disruption in railway connectivity.

He said the central minister would visit North Tripura and Mungiakami on Monday to inspect the ongoing highway works. The union minister is also scheduled to hold meeting with party leaders, Singha Roy told the reporters.
