Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh today said that Right To Information and Information Commissions play a pivotal role in reorienting governance towards greater transparency and accountability. Mr Singh said this while addressing the inaugural session of the 15th Annual General Body Meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India in New Delhi.

Highlighting reforms of the department, Mr Singh said that over 1 thousand 6 hundred obsolete rules, starting with the practice of getting documents attested by gazetted officers, were abolished. He also mentioned the abolition of interviews for government recruitment as a bold step to eliminate subjectivity and favouritism, and nepotism to make the process more objective, transparent, and merit-based. On the occasion, the Minister also released the latest edition of the RTI Journal and unveiled an E-Journal on the NFICI website.
