Mohammad Shahabuddin will be the next President of Bangladesh.

The Election Commission of Bangladesh issued a notification to this effect on Monday as only one candidate filed his nomination after the time of nomination and withdrawal was over. 
A retired judge, Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission and liberation war fighter Mohammad Shahabuddin was nominated for the post by the ruling Awami League. No other party or individual filed nomination for the post.
The incumbent President Abdul Hamid’s tenure is coming to an end on April 23. He served as President for two consecutive terms of five years. The constitution of Bangladesh does not allow any person to hold the post of President beyond two terms. 
Mohammad Shahabuddin was born in Pabna in 1949. He took part in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. Md. Shahabuddin was imprisoned for several years after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on 15 August 1975. He is a member of the Awami League Advisory Council.

The 22nd Presidential election was scheduled to be held in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) complex On February 19. As there is one candidate for the presidency, the election is not required a meeting or voting in parliament. 

Incumbent President M Abdul Hamid assumed office on April 24, 2018. Accordingly, his five-year tenure will end on April 23, 2023.
