Washington/IBNS: Our commitment is to the rule of law, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, promising to look into any evidence substantiating Washingtons claims that an Indian official had attempted to kill a Sikh separatist on the US soil.

In an exclusive interview with Financial Times, Modi said, If someone gives us any information, we would definitely look into it.

If a citizen of ours has done anything good or bad, we are ready to look into it. Our commitment is to the rule of law, the Prime Minister added.

The US has claimed an Indian official had directed an attempt to murder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is an American and Canadian citizen.

US authorities have claimed 52-year-old Nikhil Gupta and an Indian government employee held a number of telephonic conversations, where the latter was heard asking Gupta to orchestrate a murder.

As per a report by NDTV, the two even had met in Delhi. Gupta had tried to hire a hitman, who later turned out to be an undercover federal agent of the US.

India designated Pannun as the terrorist in 2020.

Boasting on the India-US ties, Prime Minister Modi emphasised a few incidents would not derail the bilateral relationship.

This development comes following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeaus allegations that an Indian official was involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In the wake of the US claims, Trudeau again trained his guns on India and said New Delhi needs to take this seriously.

India has once again rubbished Trudeaus claims calling them motivated and absurd.
