The much-awaited Maitri Setu is all set to be operational from March 09 with an inauguration ceremony scheduled for the day in the virtual presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as per official sources.
Confirmed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shibjyoti Dutta of Sabroom, the event awaits its final program schedule. Ahead of the inauguration, a team of officials from Agartala, accompanied by the South Tripura District Magistrate, is slated to inspect the Maitri Setu’s preparations.
With nods from the Ministries of External Affairs of both nations, the bridge, positioned on the river Feni, is poised to catalyze trade, tourism, and passenger movement between India and Bangladesh.
The strategic significance of the Maitri Setu extends beyond bilateral ties, as Tripura aims to position itself as the gateway to Southeast Asian countries through enhanced connectivity. Offering access to the Chittagong seaport in Bangladesh, the bridge holds the promise of bolstering the economy and connectivity of the entire Northeast region.
