Within hours of minister and BJP leaders’ visit, Gandacherra is once again up in flames. This time the miscreants set afire Gandacherra market triggering a fresh escalation of  ethnic tension in the already troubled sub division.

Due to timely intervention of the fire service the fire could be controlled in time but at least two shops were fully gutted. All the shops belonged to the families who had only three days lost their homes. In the wake of the fresh arson situation turned extremely volatile again.

Questions being raised despite so many security and police arrangements how the miscreants could carry out the arson with impunity.

Reports reaching here from Gandacherra said, youths from Ultacherrra and North Kalajhari Bru settlement camps stormed the Gandacherra market and set the shops afire.  These Brus who had been chased away from Mizoram in 1997- were given settlement in Tripura. In Kanchapur and other areas their settlement was vehemently opposed by the locals as they felt their presence would create problems. While in Kanchanpur camps they had been accused of time again committing theft and violence.

Only yesterday Minister Tinku Roy, BJP seniors like Subal Bhowmik, Rebati Tripura, Rampada Jamatia visited Gandacherra where they faced the wrath of the villagers for administrative apathy.

Later, DG Intelligence Anurag also visited Gandacherra and held talks with the villagers. Adequate security arrangements were also made. But it is still a question as to how the Bru youths could still collect so much of petrol and go ahead with the arson.

Situation in Gandacherra is reported to be extremely tense although police administration claimed adequate security measures were put in place.
