Tension prevailed in Sekerkote area in the out skirt of the city as some miscreants resorted to a spree of bomb hurling at will since Tuesday midnight.

Amtali Police have arrested two youths Subhankar Sutradhar and Prasenjit Ghosh for their involvement in the incident.

Though details were still awaited, according to sources some local youths engaged in extortion and negotiation for big contract works were peeved at the way their ‘share of cakes’ were not forthcoming. A local club was reported to have threw the spanner in their flourishing business. This led some sort of clash of interests and a ‘discussion’ that had taken place on Tuesday came a cropper.

Enraged at the failure and the intransigence of the local club members the youths left the meeting venue but then soon came back and started throwing crude bombs indiscriminately in the locality. Those were powerful bombs and locals got hugely panicked and started running helter skelter.

As it happened at that moment former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb arrived on the spot as he was returning from Udaipur to Agartala and enquired about the incident. He immediately instructed the police take action .

Immediately Amatali Police with a big posse of policemen rushed to the spot and began a man hunt to nab the culprits. Later at night with relentless raids two were arrested. The kingpin –who was also reported to have been a ruling party supporter and held some influence in the area by virtue of his being the leader of the gang involved in the extortions etc -was still at large.

Sources in the police said, apparently, the miscreants tried to create panic in the locality and show their might.

“We are investigating”, said the officer who did not want to be named.
