Mirzapur: The Movie has reportedly received CBFC clearance with hardly any modifications. The theatrical adaptation, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and others, is set to bring the raw world of Mirzapur to cinemas on September 4.
The highly anticipated Mirzapur: The Movie has reportedly received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with hardly any modifications, raising excitement among fans waiting to see the popular crime drama franchise make its transition from streaming to the big screen.
According to a source close to the film, the theatrical adaptation has been certified with very few suggested modifications, allowing the makers to retain much of the raw and intense storytelling associated with the Mirzapur universe.
The source claimed that the certification process has ensured that audiences will get to experience the film largely in the form envisioned by its makers.
“This means audiences will get to experience the much-awaited theatrical adaptation exactly the way the makers intended it to be seen, retaining its raw, unfiltered essence on the big screen,” the source said.
Earlier reports had suggested that around 35 seconds of footage had been removed from the film during the certification process. However, the source close to the project has claimed that no significant cuts have been made and that only a limited number of modifications were suggested by the censor board.
The development is likely to further increase anticipation surrounding the film, which marks a major shift for the Mirzapur franchise. After gaining a strong following through its streaming series, the story is now set to offer audiences a larger-than-life theatrical experience.
Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who returns as the powerful and much-loved Kaleen Bhaiya, recently spoke about the difference between watching Mirzapur individually and experiencing its world collectively inside a cinema hall.
According to Tripathi, the communal nature of cinema is expected to give the franchise a completely new dimension. He said that when a performance or art form is experienced together with a large audience, its impact changes significantly.
“Whenever a performance or art form is experienced communally, the impact changes entirely. Enjoying it in a group creates a unique, shared experience,” Tripathi said.
Explaining how the theatrical format will change the viewing experience, he added that while Mirzapur was previously a more personal and individual viewing experience, the film will bring the franchise into what he described as “party mode”.
“The world is the same, the characters are the same, but the story is new, and the experience is much grander,” he said.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur: The Movie has been presented by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Excel Entertainment. The project is jointly backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner.
Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani have co-produced the film.
The movie will bring back several familiar faces from the acclaimed series in their popular avatars. The returning cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Harshita Gaur.
The theatrical adaptation will also introduce new additions to the cast, including Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan, adding further interest to the expanding Mirzapur universe.
