Minor Murders 9-Year Old Sister
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through South Tripura, a 17-year-old boy, Sohel Tripura, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 9-year-old sister, Ujjashikha Tripura. The arrest was made by the Manubazar police following a brief but intense investigation.
According to police sources, Ujjashikha was reported missing on May 21. A desperate search ensued, and her lifeless body was discovered the following day in a rubber plantation near the family’s home. The discovery sparked immediate suspicion and launched a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
As part of the investigation, the police initially detained the victim’s mother, 37-year-old Sabita Tripura, and her elder son, Sohel. While the mother was released the next morning after questioning, Sohel remained in custody.
Under sustained interrogation, Sohel reportedly confessed to the crime. His arrest has left the local community reeling, especially given the shocking nature of the accusation—a brother allegedly taking the life of his younger sister.
He was presented before the Sabroom court on Friday, which granted a four-day police remand to allow for further investigation. Authorities confirmed he will be produced in court again on May 27.
Speaking to the media, South Tripura police official Namit Pathak called the incident “deeply disturbing,” underscoring the severity of a case where a sibling is accused of such a brutal act. Investigators continue to probe the motive and circumstances of the killing, with more details expected to emerge in the coming days.

Leader of the Opposition in Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhury, has expressed profound concern over the incident.
