
Dr. Sandeep R. Rathod, Secretary to the Rural Development department, shared significant updates regarding Tripura’s rural development efforts on Wednesday in a press conference.
Highlighting the accomplishments under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Dr. Rathod stated that Tripura has generated an impressive 3.61 crore persondays in the current financial year, averaging 61.5 mandays per person. This performance ranks Tripura third nationally in persondays generation.
Funding-wise, the central government allocated Rs. 1065.64 crore to Tripura for MGNREGA projects this year, supplemented by a state contribution of Rs. 75.12 crore. Notably, Rs. 1021.75 crore of this allocation has already been utilized.
Looking ahead, the central government has sanctioned a Labour Budget of 3 crore mandays for the next financial year, demonstrating continued support for rural employment in Tripura.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Tripura has seen remarkable progress, with approval for 3.77 lakh houses, including 1.70 lakh sanctioned since 2022. Impressively, an average of 500 houses have been constructed daily, totaling 2.91 lakh houses built. The state government allocated Rs. 4700 crore for PMAY(G), with 63 percent spent since the previous financial year.
Dr. Rathod also highlighted Tripura’s successful governance model, with delegations from Maharashtra and Assam visiting the state to study its Panchayati Raj System. Additionally, the ‘Amar Sarkar’ portal has facilitated citizen engagement, with over 50,351 issues raised and 40,942 addressed.
The press conference, attended by key officials including Ajit Shukla Das, Additional CEO of TRLM, Prasun De, Director of the Panchayat department, and Sagar Sovan Debnath, Chief Engineer of the RD department, underscores the collaborative efforts driving Tripura’s rural development agenda.
