In Men’s Cricket, the first T20 International between India and England was abandoned due to rain in Chester-le-Street today. The five-match series now stands level at 0-0. Opting to bat first, India scored 189 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs, with skipper Shreyas Iyer scoring the highest 68 runs off 47 balls.
Opening batter Abhishek Sharma also scored 59 runs, while Shivam Dubey remained not out at 42 runs. For England, Saqib Mahmood bagged 3 wickets. However, hosts England didn’t get the opportunity to bat in the second innings as rain paused the match.
Both teams will now face each other in second T20 in Manchester on Saturday, while the third match will be played in Nottingham on 7th of July. Bristol and Southampton will host the final two matches of the T20 series, which concludes on 11th of July.
Following this, India will face England in a three-match ODI series.
