Jatrapur police seized 138 kg of dry ganja in a major narcotics bust, arresting one suspect and impounding a vehicle. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered as authorities intensify efforts to track down two absconding accused.
In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Jatrapur police on Friday seized a massive consignment of dry ganja weighing 138 kilograms and arrested one individual in connection with the case. The operation, carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, also led to the seizure of the vehicle used to transport the contraband. However, the driver and co-driver managed to escape from the scene and are currently absconding.
According to police sources, information was received around 1 p.m. that a vehicle carrying ganja from Barakhola was moving towards the main road through the Rangamura route. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Sitikanta Bardhan laid a strategic ambush at the identified interception point in Jatrapur.
As the suspected vehicle approached the location, the police team attempted to stop it for inspection. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the driver and his associate abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Despite their escape, one individual present in the vehicle was apprehended by the police on the spot.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered four large drums containing a total of 138 kilograms of dry ganja. The contraband was immediately seized in accordance with legal procedures. The vehicle, bearing registration number TR01D 3432, has also been taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested individual. The accused is expected to be produced before the court following necessary legal formalities. Authorities have launched a manhunt to trace and apprehend the absconding driver and co-driver involved in the illegal transportation of the narcotics.
Senior police officers stated that the successful operation highlights the department’s continued commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the region. The seizure of such a large quantity of ganja is considered a major blow to organized narcotics networks operating in and around Jatrapur.
Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance along key transit routes to prevent further smuggling attempts. Officials believe that the seized consignment was intended for distribution beyond the local market, possibly linking to a wider interstate drug supply chain.
