The affected families allege that the local administration has been conspicuously absent, offering no concrete steps to prevent further erosion or safeguard the remaining homes.

The absence of effective measures has left residents feeling abandoned and vulnerable, their pleas for help seemingly falling on deaf ears.

“We are desperate for help,” said Sabita Sarkar, a displaced resident. “Please do something for us,” she pleaded, her eyes filled with tears. Sabita, along with fellow residents Manik Sarkar and Renu Sarkar, expressed their anguish to reporters, highlighting the dire need for intervention.

The financial burden of losing their homes has made it nearly impossible for these families to purchase new land and rebuild. Standing under the open sky, they are left to ponder their uncertain future.

The situation in Kailashahar has been exacerbated by severe waterlogging, impacting the entire Unakoti district headquarters. The Manu River’s water level nearly reached the danger mark but began to recede around 11 PM last night.

However, as the waters receded, they left behind a trail of destruction, submerging several homes and leaving many families in distress.
