Violence erupts in Mangalkhali, Dharmanagar subdivision, as angry protesters set houses ablaze over delayed arrests in a March 21 case. Police deploy heavy security, launch investigation, and urge calm amid rising tension and fears of further unrest.

Mangalkhali village in the Dharmanagar subdivision witnessed a dramatic escalation of unrest on Thursday as a protest over delayed police action spiraled into violence, leaving multiple houses gutted and the entire locality gripped by fear.

The unrest began early in the morning when a large number of residents gathered to protest against the alleged inaction of authorities in arresting suspects linked to a March 21 incident. Demonstrators, including men and women, staged a road blockade, effectively bringing vehicular movement to a halt. The blockade caused significant inconvenience to commuters, with stranded vehicles lining both sides of the road for hours.

Eyewitnesses reported that the protest, initially peaceful, gradually turned aggressive as tempers flared. The situation deteriorated rapidly when a section of the agitators broke away from the main group and marched toward the houses of the accused individuals. Armed with sticks and other objects, the mob allegedly vandalized properties before setting several houses on fire.

Flames quickly engulfed the structures, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering panic among nearby residents. Many families fled their homes in fear as the fire threatened to spread further in the densely populated area.

Emergency services responded promptly to the crisis. The Dharmanagar Fire Service dispatched two fire engines to the scene. Firefighters battled the blaze for an extended period, managing to bring the situation under control and prevent further destruction. Officials confirmed that their timely intervention helped avert a potentially larger disaster.

In response to the escalating tension, a significant police force was deployed in Mangalkhali. Senior officers rushed to the spot to oversee operations and restore order. Law enforcement personnel worked to disperse the crowd and secure the affected area, ensuring that no further incidents occurred.

Despite the restoration of relative calm, the atmosphere in Mangalkhali remains tense. Security has been tightened, and authorities are maintaining a strong presence to prevent any fresh outbreaks of violence.

Police sources stated that an investigation into the incident has been initiated. Efforts are currently underway to identify individuals involved in the arson and vandalism. Officials assured that those responsible would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

At the same time, local residents have expressed deep frustration over what they perceive as a delay in the arrest of the accused persons from the March 21 case. Community members warned that if immediate action is not taken, they may intensify their agitation in the coming days, raising concerns about further instability in the region.

Authorities have appealed for calm and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands. They emphasized that due process is being followed and that maintaining peace is crucial for the safety and well-being of all citizens.
