The result moved Pep Guardiola’s side within two points of league leaders Arsenal and reignited pressure in the championship race ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming clash against West Ham United.
Coming into the match after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton earlier in the week, City were determined to respond with authority. Guardiola’s players produced a composed and energetic performance, especially in the second half, to earn a vital three points in front of their home supporters.
Despite dominating possession from the opening whistle, Manchester City initially struggled to break through Brentford’s disciplined defensive setup. Belgian winger Jeremy Doku proved to be the most dangerous attacking outlet early in the game and nearly opened the scoring within the first two minutes.
