Manchester City defeated Brentford 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium to stay firmly in the Premier League title race. Goals from Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, and Omar Marmoush moved Pep Guardiola’s side within two points of Arsenal ahead of a crucial weekend clash.

Manchester City strengthened their pursuit of another Premier League title after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The result moved Pep Guardiola’s side within two points of league leaders Arsenal and reignited pressure in the championship race ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming clash against West Ham United.

Coming into the match after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton earlier in the week, City were determined to respond with authority. Guardiola’s players produced a composed and energetic performance, especially in the second half, to earn a vital three points in front of their home supporters.

Despite dominating possession from the opening whistle, Manchester City initially struggled to break through Brentford’s disciplined defensive setup. Belgian winger Jeremy Doku proved to be the most dangerous attacking outlet early in the game and nearly opened the scoring within the first two minutes. His low strike forced Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher into an excellent save before Doku delivered a dangerous cross that Erling Haaland headed wide.

Haaland remained a constant threat throughout the first half. The Norwegian striker tested Kelleher again with a powerful header before seeing another goal-bound effort heroically blocked by defender Kristoffer Ajer. Brentford managed to frustrate City for long periods, but the pressure from the home side continued to build steadily.

The breakthrough finally arrived around the hour mark through Doku, who delivered a moment of quality to change the momentum completely. Cutting inside from the wing, the Belgian curled a superb strike into the far corner of the net. The finish closely resembled the dramatic equalizer he scored against Everton earlier in the week and lifted the atmosphere inside the Etihad Stadium.

With the deadlock broken, Manchester City looked far more comfortable and confident in attack. Brentford attempted to respond, but City’s defensive structure remained solid and organized under pressure.

Haaland doubled the advantage with 15 minutes remaining after scrambling the ball home from close range following a crowded penalty-area situation. The goal effectively ended Brentford’s hopes of a comeback and further highlighted City’s relentless attacking presence.

Substitute Omar Marmoush added the third goal late in the match, finishing calmly to seal an emphatic victory for Guardiola’s side. The late strike completed a dominant evening for the defending champions and underlined their determination to stay firmly involved in the title race.

Although Brentford suffered defeat, they still created several dangerous moments during the game. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was called into action after misjudging a long throw from Michael Kayode, leading to a frantic goal-line clearance by City defenders. The Italian goalkeeper also produced an important save to deny a dangerous free-kick from Mathias Jensen and later reacted sharply to stop Igor Thiago at the near post in the second half.

Manchester City ultimately maintained control during the closing stages and secured an important clean sheet alongside the three points. The result keeps Guardiola’s men firmly within touching distance of Arsenal as the Premier League title race enters a decisive phase, while Brentford remain in eighth place in the standings.
