Must Read

A rare oil portrait of Mahatma Gandhi has sold for 204,648 dollars at a Bonhams auction in London, far exceeding its estimated value of 64,000-90,000 dollars. Painted in 1931 by British artist Clare Leighton, the work is believed to be the only oil portrait Mahatma Gandhi ever sat for. It was created during Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to London for the second Round Table Conference, held to discuss India’s constitutional reforms and push for self-governance. The historic artwork drew strong interest due to its rarity and historical significance, marking a significant moment in the independence movement.
