Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan today stated that women are leading in all fields and holding prominent positions such as Chief Secretary and Director General of Police in the state, which clearly indicates that Indian women have a very bright future ahead of them. He was addressing the state-level programme to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.

Mr. Radhakrishnan added that the contribution of women is crucial for the development of the country. He commended the role played by women’s self-help groups in rural areas in strengthening the economy.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of Women and Child Development Aditi Tatkare, Minister of State Meghna Bordikar, Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission Rupali Chakankar, and others were present at the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised that the goal of a developed India cannot be achieved without placing women at the centre of the economy. He expressed concern over violence against women and stressed that while enacting laws is important, it is equally essential to create a sense of respect for women.

Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis felicitated 10 outstanding women achievers from the state. Keya Hatkar, a young Divyang writer; Priyanka Ingle, the captain of the Indian Women’s Kho-Kho team; Antara Mehta, a fighter pilot from Nagpur; Apoorva Alatkar, the first woman loco pilot of Pune Metro; Mumtaz Kazi, the first woman loco pilot to operate a diesel engine train; and journalist Rupali Badve were honoured on this occasion.

Suman Dhamne, a social media star chef from Ahilyanagar; Diana Edulji, former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team; office bearers of the Nagpur Mahila Samman Credit Cooperative Society; and Sujata Sainik, the first woman Chief Secretary of the state, were also honoured. The Governor and Chief Minister unveiled the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin RuPay Card.’.
