Madhya Pradesh has become the state with the highest number of vultures in the country. In the recent state-level census of vultures conducted by the Forest Department, the number of vultures has increased to 12 thousand 981.
Akakshvani’s correspondent reports that in Madhya Pradesh, the vulture census was conducted in 16 circles, 64 divisions and 9 protected areas of the Forest Department in the state. The population of vultures is continuously increasing in Madhya Pradesh. In the census of the year 2019, the number of vultures was 8 thousand 397, which increased to 10 thousand 845 in 2024.
The census of vultures in the state was started in the year 2016. A total of 7 species of vultures are found in the state. Out of these, 4 species are local and 3 species are migratory. The winter season is ideally recommended for counting vultures because during this time, local and migratory vultures are easily counted.
