Wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area have claimed 24 lives, burned through 40,000 acres, and destroyed over 12,300 structures, leaving entire communities devastated. The fires, which began Tuesday night, are among the most destructive in the county’s history, according to the Los Angeles Fire Chief.
Evacuation orders are in place for 105,000 residents, with an additional 87,000 in evacuation warning zones, ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Los Angeles County has declared a public health emergency, citing serious health risks from smoke and particulate matter.
The largest fire, Palisades, is only 13 per cent contained, while the Eaton fire is 27 per cent contained, and Hurst is 89 per cent contained. Three smaller fires-Kenneth, Sunset, and Sunswept-have been fully contained. Firefighters are working tirelessly to bring the deadly blazes under control.
