The Lok Sabha today took up discussion on the General Budget 2025-26. Participating in the discussion, Rao Rajendra Singh of BJP lauded the Union Budget, saying it has taken care of the interests of the poor, farmers, and women. He said the government has focused on the well-being of farmers and taken several initiatives in this direction. He also discussed the growing tourism and aviation industries in the country. Mr. Singh highlighted central government achievements in different sectors and steps taken to strengthen the economy in the country. Another party MP, Sudheer Gupta, said that this budget focuses on the welfare of farmers, and steps have been taken to increase the production of pulses.
He added that a budgetary allocation of one lakh 70 thousand crore rupees has been made for agriculture and allied activities. Daggumalla Prasada Rao of TDP said that this Viksit Bharat budget is designed to create a robust foundation for growth. He lauded the government’s decision to provide a tax rebate of up to 12 lakh rupees in income. Echoing the same view, Dinesh Chandra Yadav of JDU said that this is a very liberal budget, and the middle class appreciates the government’s decision to provide tax relief.
Dharamvir Gandhi of Congress alleged that the Union Budget has failed to address the agrarian challenges being faced by the country. He also raised the issue of farmers’ suicide. The Congress leader said the quality of education in the country is becoming costlier day by day, and it is not affordable for the poor and underprivileged in the country. Shiv Pal Singh of the Samajwadi Party also criticised the budget, saying that farmers are not getting appropriate prices for their produce. He also raised the issue of higher prices of fertilisers in the country. Abhishek Banerjee of TMC raised the issue of the hike in the prices of LPG cylinders, claiming that over one crore households could not refill their cooking gas cylinders. He questioned the government about the issues and problems faced by the farmers in the country. Mr Banerjee alleged that West Bengal has not received enough allocations in the Union Budget. The discussion remained inconclusive.
