CPI(M) and Left Front leaders commemorated the 110th anniversary of the Russian Revolution at Agartala’s Muktadhara Auditorium. Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted Lenin’s ideology, social equality and the need to strengthen democratic values.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and Left Front commemorated the 110th anniversary of the historic Great November Revolution of 1917 by organising a special convention at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala on Saturday. The programme witnessed the participation of several senior Left Front leaders, party workers and supporters.

Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury were among the prominent leaders present at the convention. Senior representatives and workers from CPI(M) and various Left Front organisations also attended the programme to pay tribute to the historic revolution that marked a significant turning point in world history.

During the convention, leaders remembered the pioneers of the Russian Revolution and highlighted the contributions of revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin. They discussed the historical significance of the 1917 revolution and its influence on socialist movements, workers’ rights and struggles against economic and social inequality across the world.

Addressing the gathering, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar emphasised the continuing relevance of Lenin’s ideology in the present socio-political situation. He highlighted the importance of the socialist movement in challenging exploitation, inequality and oppression and called for continued efforts towards establishing an exploitation-free society.

Sarkar stressed that the ideals associated with the November Revolution remained significant in the struggle for social justice and equality. He also underlined the need to strengthen the Left movement and its organisational activities across Tripura.

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury also addressed the convention and launched a strong criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Chaudhury alleged that authoritarian tendencies were increasing in the country and accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to take India towards what he described as a neo-fascist path. He further alleged that their political approach threatened democratic values and the achievements secured through decades of struggles.

Emphasising the importance of protecting democratic institutions and constitutional principles, Chaudhury called for strengthening collective efforts against forces that, according to him, undermine democratic rights and social equality.

Both senior leaders highlighted the need to build an egalitarian society free from exploitation and discrimination. They also stressed that the principles of socialism, equality and justice should continue to guide political and social movements.

The gathering concluded with renewed calls to strengthen the Left Front’s organisational activities and continue its efforts towards social justice, democratic rights and an exploitation-free society.
