New Delhi/UNI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday said Lakhimpur rape incident is very disturbing, and added that womens safety cannot be expected from those who honour rapists.
In an apparent attack at the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in power in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi, in a tweet on Thursday said, The kidnapping and murder of two minor Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur in broad daylight is a very disturbing incident.
Womens safety cannot even be expected from those who get the rapists released and honour them. We have to create a safe environment in the country for women, he said in a tweet in Hindi.
Two dalit sisters, aged 14 and 17, were found hanging from a tree outside a village in Nighasan area of UPs Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday.
Police on Thursday arrested all the six accused involved in the crime.
Postmortem report of the girls confirmed rape and strangulation as the cause of death.
