In Ladakh, the District Health Society Kargil observed World No Tobacco Day today with the theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.” As part of the observance, a 5-kilometre No Tobacco Awareness Marathon was organised in Kargil under the banner “Run for a Cause, Run for Health.” The event was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse, and saw participation from over 50 students from various schools in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Shrikant Suse highlighted the administration’s continuous efforts to curb tobacco use in the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, who was the Guest of Honour, emphasized the importance of public awareness events and also mentioned the ongoing World Environment Week activities in the district.
Health officials, teachers, and members of Team Stringmo, who coordinated the event, also attended the programme. Certificates and mementos were later distributed among the participants.
