In women’s section of Norway Chess, two-time world rapid champion Koneru Humpy took sole lead with 8.5 points after a Armageddon tie-break win over China’s Lei Tingjie in Stavanger City, Norway yesterday. Another Indian Grandmaster, R. Vaishali defeated Sara Khadem to earn three points and climb to fourth place with 6.5 points.
In the Open section, world champion D Gukesh’s erratic run continued as he lost an Armageddon tie-break, slipping to joint fifth. Arjun Erigaisi pulled off a major win against world No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura to hold on to fourth place. Defending champion Magnus Carlsen edged Fabiano Caruana in a black-piece Armageddon win to take his tally to 9.5 points.
Round 6 begins today at 8:30 PM. IST. The double round-robin classical tournament features six players in each section and uses Armageddon tie-breaks in case of draws. The Tournament consists of 10 rounds.
