Khowai District Court judge Sankari Das pronounced capital punishment for one Kalicharan Tripura for committing rape and murder of a five year old girl.

The girl was reported missing from Duski Nishan Chandrapara under Teliamura police station area in Tripura on February 22 last year. Later her partially decomposed body was found from a jungle when Kalicharan after his arrest on suspicion confessed and led the police to trace the body from dense forest of the area.

After the girl went missing her father lodged a missing complaint with the Teliamura police station on February 26, 2021. Sub Inspector Bideshwar Sinha was entrusted with the investigation and he after some initial inquiry zeroed on Kalicharan. He was then picked up and under interrogation Kalicharan broke down and gave away the details of the heinous crime that he had committed.

Within a month Sub Inspector Sinha filed a charge sheet in the court on March 25, 2021 under sections 375AB / 302/201  IPC sec 6 of POCSO Act. In the trial Kalichar was found to be the culprit and Judge of the Khowai District Court, Sankari Das awarded death sentence to Kalicharan on Wednesday.

Advocate Ajit Sarkar conducted the case on behalf of the government. A total of 35 people testified.

It may be mentioned here that Khowai court was elevated as District Court in 2018 and this was the first death penalty that pronounced in this court.

Now, lawyers said the convict will have the right to move higher court against the District court judgment.
