The first episode of the eighth edition of filmmaker Karan Johars chat show Koffee With Karan created ripples on social media with a section of its users slamming Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone for being in an open relationship with her now husband Ranveer Singh in the past.
Karan, who was on an Instagram live session on Sunday, refused to give much weight to the trolls.
In a blunt response, the celebrated filmmaker said, Do what you need to do because no ones looking.
Trolling gets you nowhere. You are landing nowhere, he added.
What did Deepika say?
In the course of the episode, Deepika revealed she was in an open relationship with Ranveer, a popular Bollywood actor, until the latter proposed to her in 2015.
Deepika told Karan, I had come out of a couple of difficult relationships. I was going through this phase where I just wanted not to be attached or committed… He (Ranveer Singh) comes along. I didnt commit till he proposed to me. There was no real commitment as such. Even if we were technically allowed to see other people, we would keep coming back to each other.
So I did meet other people but I wasnt interested or excited by anyone else that I was seeing and in my mind, I was committed to him. So I would meet other people but in the back of my head, I am going back to him.
Following the revelation, Deepika, who was in a relationship with Ranbir Kapoor in the past, was trolled and judged by a section of netizens for dating multiple people at the same time.
However, the leading Bollywood lady received ample support from the other half of social media.
Deepika and Ranveer, who featured together onscreen for the first time in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, got married at Lake Como in Italy in 2018 at a private ceremony away from media glares.
Among other films where the two featured together were Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, 83.
