Kalinga Super Cup 2025 quarterfinals continue as underdogs Inter Kashi face Mumbai City FC, and NorthEast United seek redemption against Jamshedpur FC. Exciting knockout battles await at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Catch all the live action on Star Sports 3 and JioHotstar this Sunday.
The excitement at the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 heats up as the final two semi-final spots are set to be decided this Sunday. Inter Kashi face a daunting task against Indian football giants Mumbai City FC, while NorthEast United FC seek revenge against Jamshedpur FC after their recent ISL playoff heartbreak.
After Mohun Bagan SG take on Kerala Blasters and Punjab FC meet FC Goa in Saturday’s quarterfinals, Sunday promises a blockbuster double-header at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
Mumbai City FC, aiming for a second successive Kalinga Super Cup semi-final appearance, are brimming with confidence. They opened their campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC, a result that helped them quickly bounce back from their disappointing ISL playoff loss to Bengaluru FC. However, head coach Petr Kratky remains cautious ahead of their clash with Inter Kashi, warning that one good result is not enough in a knockout tournament.
“Inter Kashi will be difficult because they want to prove themselves. Adaptability is crucial — whether it’s adjusting to the opposition, the conditions, or our own lineup,” Kratky emphasized.
Inter Kashi, meanwhile, enter the clash with momentum on their side after a thrilling penalty shootout win over ISL Cup runners-up Bengaluru FC. After a 1-1 draw, goalkeeper Shubham Dhas made a vital save before Nikola Stojanović secured a historic win. Assistant coach Carlos Fonseca, speaking ahead of the match, stressed that being underdogs relieves pressure from his players.
“It’s better to play when you are not the favourites. We can defend deep, counter-attack, and play without fear,” said Fonseca. Inter Kashi, having registered their first-ever win over an ISL side, are now dreaming of becoming the first I-League club to reach the Super Cup semi-finals since Chennai City FC in 2019.
In the second quarterfinal of the evening, NorthEast United will square off against Jamshedpur FC, just 28 days after their ISL playoff meeting. Jamshedpur had eliminated NorthEast then, but head coach Juan Pedro Benali insists Sunday’s clash is a fresh chapter.
“This is a different competition. We must learn from the past but focus on the present,” said Benali. NorthEast United stormed into the quarter-finals after a 6-0 demolition of Mohammedan Sporting, with Moroccan forward Alaaeddine Ajaraei netting a hat-trick. All eyes will once again be on the ISL Golden Boot winner.
Jamshedpur, under head coach Khalid Jamil, beat Hyderabad FC 2-0 to reach the last eight. They are chasing their third consecutive Super Cup semi-final berth. Jamil acknowledged that facing a familiar NorthEast side will be tricky, especially in a knockout setting where every small mistake could be costly.
“It’s a knockout game, and we have to prepare differently. All players must take responsibility,” Jamil said.
The stakes are high, the rivalries intense, and fans can expect an action-packed day at the Kalinga Stadium.
