Joint security forces arrest suspected JMB militant Jagir Miah in Tripura during coordinated counter-terror operation. Inter-state intelligence sharing exposes extremist links, encrypted communications, and sleeper cell activities, marking a major breakthrough in regional security and anti-terror efforts.

In a major success against the Islamic terrorist sleeper cells active in the region and Tripura as well in a coordinated crackdown Tripura Police, Assam Police, and central intelligence agencies apprehended a 33‑year‑old Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh ( JMB) terrorist identified as Jagir Miah on Tuesday morning.

The arrest, officials said, was the result of sustained intelligence inputs and close inter‑state collaboration. The feedback came originally from Assam Police following arrest of several other JMB affiliated Imam Mahamude Kafila (IMK) outfit. Jagir  Miha was also a member of the IMK.

Investigators revealed that Jagir Miah, son of Hanif Miah and a resident of Jaipur Village under West Police Station, was an active member of ‘Imam Mahamude Kafila’, believed to be an ideological extension of the banned terror outfit (JMB). Preliminary findings suggest that he maintained links with the group through encrypted WhatsApp‑based communication networks.

He was named in the STF Police Station Case No. 06/2025, registered on December 28 and slapped with multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 150, 152, and 113(5), alongside stringent charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

Authorities confirmed that the accused had been taken into custody for interrogation and legal proceedings. Security officials emphasized that the arrest marked a significant step in dismantling potential sleeper cells in the region.

“This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence sharing and the determination to root out extremist elements,” a senior officer stated.

Further investigation is underway to determine the depth of Miah’s involvement and to identify other possible associates connected to the organisation. Agencies are also examining whether the network has wider links across state borders, with officials stressing that surveillance and counter‑terror measures will remain heightened in the coming weeks.
