The state will by October next touch the target of 80-85 per cent of households –out of  about 7.41 lakhs households in the state with pure drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, said DWS minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday. He was reviewing the implementation status of Jal Jeevan Mission at the PWD office at Kumarghat in Unakoti district.

“In Tripura we are working in a mission mode to achieve the target and to make it a grand success. We have already reached with piped water to about 4 lakhs households in the state”, he said and exhorted all concerned to extend their full support.

“The target as far as Unakoti districts is concerned has been fixed 20,539 -which will have to be covered by this current financial year itself. And to make it a success skilled manpower and work force like that plumber, mason, electrician and pump operator would also be engaged for the works in rural areas”, said Chowdhury.

Chowdhury pointed out that the Jal Jeevan Mission was important in a state like ours as here in the rural and hilly areas women had to undertake long and arduous travel every day to collect drinking water froom far flung locations, Once the JJM gave them water in their home, they would relieved of this task apart from reducing the deaths and diseases due to contamintated and muddy water that they had to consume, mostly in dry seasons.

SC Welfare minister Bhagaban Chandra Das, Sabhadhipati of Unakoti Zila Parishad Amalendu Das, MLA Fatikroy Sudhangshu Das, Block Development Officers, chairmen and vice-chairmen of local Panchayat Samities, Engineer-in-Chief (DWS) Shyamlal Bhowmik and superintendent engineer Rajib Majumder along with other officials including District Magistate, Unakoti-  Uttam Kumar Chakma and SP Unakoti Kishore Debbarma were present in the review meeting.

The minister also inaugurated a Surface Water Treatment Plant (1.20 MGD) at Fatikroy.

Chowdhury said he would be holding meeting in all the districts to review the JJM implementations across the state.
