CPM state unit secretary Jiten Choudhury criticised the state government for its failure to maintain law and order in the run up of the Urban Local Bodies elections slated for November 25 .
The Opposition leader said elections were always held in the state in a festive mood and during Left Front government all political parties were free to hold poll campaigns in their own ways.
“But of late during the BJP rule opposition leaders and workers are being attacked or harassed and police are found to be inactive”, he alleged while addressing a poll rally in Sabrum. Choudhury also referred to the violence that took place in front of the East Agartala women police station on Sunday.
“Our candidates were also forced to withdraw nominations . The situation is worse”, he added.
The CMP leader also sought to take the credit for ongoing development works in the state saying that most the ambitious projects like that of Maitri Bridge, Rail Integrated Checkpost and International trade centre were taken up during the Left Front government only..
