Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad president and a senior CPM leader Jitendra Chaudhury a ka Jiten Chaudhury has been elected as the new CPM Tripura Unit secretary. His election to the all-important post has come following death of incumbent secretary Gautam Das recently due to covid.
Chaudhury was earlier Lok Sabha member of the CPM as well as Forest, Information and Cultural Affairs and Tribal Welfare Minister for many years in the Left Front government headed by Manik Sarkar.
Sixty five years old Chadhury happens to be second tribal leader to become the CPM state secretary in Tripura after late Dasarath Deb- who also once became Chief Minister. He
He was also a former Chief Whip of CPI-M group in Lok Sabha and national Convener of the party-backed Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch.
