Must Read

In Jammu and Kashmir, heatwave conditions continue to grip the Jammu region. The region has been experiencing extreme heatwave conditions for the past four days. Five districts recorded temperatures above the 40-degree mark yesterday. Samba recorded the highest maximum temperature at 46.6 degrees Celsius, while Jammu city registered 44.3 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Jammu city was higher than Sunday’s 42.7 degrees Celsius. Katra, the base camp for the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius, while Ramban recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius and Kathua 43.2 degrees Celsius.

The MeT department has forecast a five-day-long heatwave with temperatures expected to soar 4 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, intensifying health concerns and prompting government advisories across J&K. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the heatwave will persist from June 9 to June 13. This is the most intense heat spell of the season so far. With extreme weather variations, the IMD and health authorities have urged residents, particularly vulnerable groups like children, the elderly and pregnant women, to take extra precautions.

Recommendations include staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, wearing light, breathable cotton clothing, avoiding strenuous physical activity in the sun, and using hats or umbrellas when stepping out.
