Night temperatures plummeted at most places in the Kashmir valley, with Gulmarg recording the seasons coldest night of the season at -8.0C on Monday, officials said.

Meteorological Centre Srinagar said Gulmarg recorded the second consecutive coldest night of the season at -8 C on Monday, against -6.0 C recorded the previous night. It was -3.2 C below normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir.

Pahalgam was the second coldest place, with the night temperature dipped to -5.8C against the -1.5C recorded a day ago. It was 1.4C below normal for the tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.

The minimum temperature improved in Srinagar and was recorded at 0.5C against the -0.5C recorded on Sunday. It was 2.0C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar was 0.5C above the normal of 9.0C recorded on Sunday.

Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir, recorded 0.8C against the 0.0C recorded a day ago, while Kokernag recorded a low of 1.1C against the -0.8C, and it was 2.8C above normal.

Kupwara dipped to -2.2C on Monday against the 1.1C recorded the previous night. It was 0.2C above normal for the frontier north Kashmir district., the MeT office said.

MeT predicted the weather will mainly remain dry till December 23, and from December 24-26, it will be generally cloudy with the possibility of light snow over isolated higher reaches.

Overall, there is no significant weather activity till December 26, the MeT office said, adding that the temperature is likely to fall by 243C hereafter.
