Srinagar: A government school in Jammu and Kashmirs Bandipora has made its premises junk-free, the school announced on Wednesday.

Government Girls Middle School Onagam Bandipora on Wednesday announced its transformation into a junk food-free institution, taking a significant stride towards promoting the health and well-being of its students.

With utmost dedication to fostering a positive learning environment, the school has implemented a comprehensive initiative to eliminate unhealthy food options from its premises, ensuring the nutrition and vitality of its students, head of the school Javaid Jawad said.

The transition to a junk food-free environment required collaborative efforts from school administrators, dedicated teachers, and engaged parents who recognised the importance of providing nutritious options to students, Jawad said.

A state awardee, Jawad, said parents, particularly mothers, were motivated to replace sugary snacks and packaged junk food with nutritious alternatives.

The school empowered students to make dietary choices that have a lasting impact on their physical and cognitive development, he said.

He said GMS Onagam believes that fostering a healthy lifestyle is crucial to nurturing the future leaders of tomorrow.

By removing junk food from our campus, we aim to cultivate a culture of well-being and instill lifelong habits that will contribute to our students success, he added.

The school head said their institute will serve as a role model for other educational institutions aspiring to prioritise student welfare and health.
