The Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB, has said that a notorious gangster and drug trafficker, Jagdeep Singh, alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, has been detained and shifted from Bathinda of Punjab to Central Jail in Silchar of Assam.

The gangster has been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. Jaggu, who is also an accused in Sidhu Moosewala’s murder case, has repeatedly used mobile phones to orchestrate criminal activities from within Punjab’s high-security jails, as evidenced by multiple cases.

In a statement, the NCB said that Jaggu’s established linkages with international operatives in Canada, the USA and Pakistan warranted his relocation to disrupt the ecosystem facilitating continued criminal activity.

The agency added that the actions were executed following detailed intelligence inputs and sustained investigations that revealed the continued involvement of several high-profile traffickers in orchestrating drug trafficking networks from jail. The preventive detention of high-profile drug offenders by the NCB is a pivotal step towards dismantling jail-based narcotics syndicates and upholding the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
