Rescue operations intensify after Jabalpur cruise tragedy at Bargi Dam, with 24 rescued, 6 dead, and 9 missing including children. Multi-agency teams race against time amid challenging underwater conditions and emotional scenes at accident site.

Rescue teams pressed on through the night and into Friday morning after a devastating cruise boat accident at Bargi Dam, where a tourist vessel capsized, leaving multiple casualties and several passengers still unaccounted for. Authorities confirmed that 24 people have been rescued so far, while nine individuals, including five children, remain missing in what has become one of the most distressing incidents in the region in recent years.

The accident occurred in the backwaters of the Narmada River near Khamariya Island, when the cruise boat reportedly overturned after being struck by sudden strong winds and adverse weather conditions. Eyewitness accounts suggest the vessel capsized rapidly, giving passengers little time to react or secure safety.

Officials from National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been working relentlessly at the site, supported by personnel from the Indian Army. The multi-agency operation reflects the seriousness of the incident, with additional reinforcements brought in from across the country to intensify rescue and recovery efforts.

According to the district administration, six fatalities have been confirmed so far. The deceased include individuals from different parts of India, highlighting the wide-reaching impact of the tragedy. Meanwhile, among those rescued, several have already returned home, while others remain hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries and trauma.

The submerged vessel is believed to be lodged at a depth of approximately 20 feet, complicating rescue operations. Divers have faced poor visibility and difficult underwater conditions, significantly slowing progress. Heavy machinery, including cranes, excavators, and hydraulic cutters, has been deployed in an attempt to locate and retrieve the capsized boat.

Authorities indicated that the pace of operations increased significantly by early Friday morning, as teams worked against time to locate the missing passengers. A helicopter unit dispatched from Hyderabad and additional paramilitary personnel from Kolkata have joined the operation, underscoring the scale of the emergency response.

Emotional scenes unfolded at the accident site as families of passengers gathered overnight, desperately seeking updates about their loved ones. Many were seen waiting anxiously near the rescue zone, while officials attempted to manage the situation with regular briefings and emergency assistance counters.

Medical teams have been stationed nearby to provide immediate care to survivors, some of whom were pulled from the water in critical condition. Trauma counseling and emergency support services are also being extended to affected families.

Despite continuous efforts, officials have cautioned that determining the exact cause of the accident will require a thorough investigation after the vessel is fully retrieved. Weather conditions at the time of the incident, as well as safety compliance and operational protocols, are expected to come under scrutiny.

As the operation enters a crucial phase, the focus remains on locating the nine missing individuals. Rescue teams continue to comb the area, holding onto hope even as challenges persist beneath the surface.
