A delegation from the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), the junior partner in the current state government, met with Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

The delegation, comprising Minister Shukla Charan Noatia and IPFT president Prem Kumar Reang, also discussed the 125th Constitutional Amendment and various developmental issues.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the IPFT leadership highlighted concerns about the population explosion due to illegal infiltration and immigration from Bangladesh.

They pointed out the significant alienation of tribal land leading to the displacement of indigenous people since the merger of princely-ruled independent Tripura with the Indian Union in 1949.

The memorandum emphasized the persistent challenges faced by the IPs (Tripuri or Tipra) of Tripura, including exploitation, oppression, suppression, and deprivation from basic civic amenities for the past 75 years.

The scheduled hill areas under TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) still lack essential services such as quality education, drinking water facilities, road connectivity, sanitation, and healthcare.

The Ministry of Home Affairs formed the Inter-Ministerial High-Level Modality Committee, and the IPFT delegation pushed for the findings to be made public.
They also advocated elevating TTAADC to Tipra Territorial Council (TTC) with an increase in seats from 30 to 50 for greater autonomy and financial grants, as proposed in the 125th Constitutional Amendment.

To address these issues, the IPFT proposed the creation of a separate state, Tipraland, based on the TTAADC Scheduled Areas of Tripura under Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution of India, aiming for a permanent solution to ensure the survival of the Tripuri people with their own identity and security.

Separately, a meeting presided over by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder focused on the successful implementation of the national government’s Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and Prati Ghore Shushasan 2.0 programmes.

Mayor Majumder, along with key figures of the municipal corporation, discussed the detailed dissemination of benefits under central and state government schemes to ensure maximum outreach.

Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Municipal Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav, corporators from all AMC wards, and other officials attended the meeting. The mayor called for effective cooperation from all members to actualize the vision of these campaigns in every ward under the AMC, emphasizing their importance for the welfare of the community.
