The 10th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Tripura under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” Various government and private establishments, educational institutions, security forces, and social organizations actively participated in the events.
The state-level programme was held at the International Exhibition Center in Hapania, attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Cooperatives Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar, Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ramprasad Pal, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar, and Secretary to Information and Cultural Affairs Department P.K. Chakraborty. The Chief Minister emphasized yoga’s role in daily life, its health benefits, and its global recognition through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts. He also highlighted the nutritional benefits of millet.
Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated an event organized by Prajapati Brahmakumaris in Agartala at the Muktadhara Auditorium and attended another event at Assam Rifles Public School, organized by Elite Eighteen. He underscored the importance of yoga for both physical and mental health.
The Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated the day with various activities, including an event at Bharat-Bangladesh Maitri Setu in Sabroom, led by IG Patel Piyush Purusottam Das. The IG emphasized the importance of yoga for reducing stress and maintaining physical and mental well-being. The BSF Wives Welfare Association also organized yoga events for families and children at BSF campuses.
In Sabroom, events at Sabroom Model J.B. School saw participation from local dignitaries such as chairperson of Nagar Panchayat Rama Poddar Dey and SDM Shivjyoti Dey. Udaipur hosted an event at DIET Kakraban involving the Gomati district Youth Affairs and Sports Department, district administration, Zilla Parishad, Udaipur Municipal Council, and various blocks. Notable attendees included MLA Abhishek Debroy, MLA Jitendra Majumder, Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, chairperson of Udaipur Municipal Council Shital Chandra Majumder, and District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma. A good number of school students and staff participated in the yoga sessions.
In Kumarghat, students from educational institutions run by Vidya Bharati in Unakoti district participated in the global celebration, while Kalyanpur saw significant student involvement in events led by MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury and local representatives. Teliamura’s main event was held at Netajinagar Loknath Ashram, attended by MLA and Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly Kalyani Saha Roy, chairman of Teliamura Municipal Council Rupak Sarkar, officers, students, teachers, and police personnel. A rally was also held in the town.
Ampi’s celebration took place at the girls’ hostel of Khumulwng Government Degree College, led by Assistant Professor Maharani Hrangkhawl, who guided the girl hostellers through yoga exercises. In Amarpur, the main event was at Chandibari school ground with participation from MLA Ranjit Das, Chairman of Amarpur Nagar Panchayat Bikash Saha, Sub-divisional Magistrate Amaresh Barman, SDPO Debanjali Roy, and others. Nutanbazar hosted a yoga camp at Panjiham Higher Secondary School with participation from SDM Prartha Das, SDPO Gamanjoy Reang, students, officials, and local residents.
Overall, the International Day of Yoga in Tripura was marked by widespread participation, highlighting the significance of yoga for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and promoting community well-being.
