Industry bodies and consulting firms welcome implementation of four labour codes in the country

Must Read

Industry bodies and consulting firms have welcomed the implementation of four labour codes in the country, calling the move a landmark that will boost formal job creation, expand the social security net and streamline compliance.  The Code on Wages, 2019, the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, the Code on Social Security, 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 came into effect yesterday, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the existing, decades-old labour laws in the country. The four labour codes mark a major reform by modernizing labour laws, ensuring decent working conditions, fair wages, and long-term protection for workers across all sectors.️

Industry leaders across technology, staffing, consulting and legal sectors have hailed the reform push, calling it timely, worker-centric and essential for a modern economy.
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has lauded the landmark move. BMS National Secretary Girish Arya said, the decision is the biggest reform made in favour of workers since Independence. He added that it will empower labourers and make compliance easier.

The President of the National Front of Indian Trade Unions (NFITU), Dr Deepak Jaiswal, said, around fifty crore people are working in the unorganised sector, and their minimum wage will now be fully ensured with the implementation of the new Labour Codes. He said, there is also a provision for equal pay for equal work for women. In terms of personal health and safety, the old laws have now been updated with many modern provisions.

Welcoming the new Labour Codes, the Indian technology industry’s trade body, Nasscom, said the notification of key provisions marks an important step in India’s labour reform journey. It said, greater clarity on wages, safety, and social security will support a stronger workforce. Nasscom added that it will work closely with all stakeholders to help the industry navigate this change with confidence. The Indian Staffing Federation described the rollout as unequivocally positive, emphasising that the Codes extend social security to gig and platform workers, mandate universal minimum wages and create portable benefits for migrant workers.  The International Social Security Association said India’s Labour Codes add momentum to global efforts for stronger and more inclusive social security systems. It appreciated this milestone and encouraged sustained investment in coverage, protection and institutional capacity.
