In order to strengthen the ties between India and Bangladesh, sports personalities of India and Bangladesh have constituted a new sports body–Indo-Bangla friendship sports forum with an aim to enhance sports and games related activities between both the Asian countries, said Sujit Roy, a member of the newly formed forum. Roy along with Tripura Football Association President Ratan Saha, and presidents of Bengal and Maharashtra Olympic associations attended the International Sports Day event and the forum was officially formed during their visit to Bangladesh. On his arrival at Akhaura integrated check-post, Roy said, “India and Bangladesh have had strong trade relations since long. Several events are also organized for cultural exchange but in the field of sports no such organizations were there. We have formed a new organization and also taken a slew of decisions to increase participation of both the countries in sports’ ‘. On being asked what would be their next course of action, he said, “Initially we have planned to organize knowledge exchange seminars between coaches of both the countries. We are also planning to send a team of sports doctors from India to visit Bangladesh. Medicine specialist Dr Kanak Chowdhury from AGMC and GBP hospital has also given his consent to be a part of the medical team”. Roy further added that marathon races will be organized in Tripura and West Bengal to commemorate Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited Tripura and some parts of Bengal. Our organization is planning to hold a race to commemorate Bangabandhu. Athletes from both the countries shall participate in the peace marathon”, said Roy.
